Why students use this summarizer
See a result before you sign up
A useful first pass should not wait on an email form. Guest limits keep the tool honest. The summary is on screen first. The extension ask comes after, for video.
Modes that match how exams work
A generic paragraph is a start. Exam bullets and key claims are closer to what you have to produce from memory. TL;DR plus actions tells you what to do next, not only what the page said.
Length you can choose
Short for a skim before section, medium for a reading response, long when the chapter is the assignment. Paragraph or bullet list, same source.
A path back to the lecture
Handouts are half the course. The other half is the recording. Students use SummarizAI on the YouTube watch page when the source is a video, not a file.
What you can summarize
- Pasted notes — typed lecture notes, reading annotations, discussion posts.
- PDF handouts — syllabi excerpts, papers, and slides that have a real text layer.
- DOCX — drafts, outlines, and essays you want compressed before you revise.
- TXT — transcripts you already exported, including captions you copied out of a player.
Scanned pages and older Word .doc files are out of scope. Export a text-based PDF or paste the words.
How it works
- 1Add the source. Paste into the box or drop a PDF, DOCX, or TXT. The character and word counts update as soon as the text is readable.
- 2Pick the shape. Paragraph or bullets. Short, medium, or long. Summary, key claims, exam bullets, or TL;DR plus actions. English is the default language.
- 3Use the result. Copy it, download TXT or PDF, or regenerate with a different mode. Compression and time sit above the summary. Then, if the source was a lecture video, open it in the extension.
Summarize the lecture, not only the handout
A document summarizer cannot hear the example the professor added after the slide. The SummarizAI Chrome extension runs on the watch page: a summary, chapters, comment context, chat, and Study flashcards. Start with how to take notes from YouTube lectures and turning a lecture video into a study guide.
Compared with pasting into a chatbot
| SummarizAI text tool | Paste into ChatGPT | Login-gated summarizer | |
|---|---|---|---|
| First summary | Guest trial, no account | Account required | Account before any result |
| Study shapes | Summary, claims, exam bullets, actions | Whatever prompt you write | Usually length only |
| Files | PDF, DOCX, TXT, or paste | Depends on the chat plan | Often PDF and DOCX |
| YouTube lectures | Chrome extension on the watch page | Manual transcript paste | Usually a separate product |
| Source storage | Not stored after the request | Chat history if you keep the thread | Often saved to an account |
A longer look at the paste-into-chat habit is ChatGPT paste vs a Chrome extension on YouTube. For exam week, active recall from YouTube lectures and the student summarizer guide pick up where a document summary stops.
Frequently asked questions
Can I summarize text without creating an account?
Yes. Guest summaries run before any sign-in. There is an hourly cap and a size cap. You see the summary first. The Chrome extension is the upgrade path for YouTube lectures, not a login wall on this page.
What files can I upload?
PDF, DOCX, and TXT up to 10 MB. The tool reads the text layer. Scanned PDFs without selectable text are not supported. Older .doc files need to be saved as DOCX.
Do you store what I paste?
No. Pasted text and text extracted from a file are sent only to generate that summary and are not saved after the request. See the privacy policy for how the Chrome extension handles YouTube data.
How is this different from pasting into ChatGPT?
You stay on one page, pick a length, and choose a study mode: summary, key claims, exam bullets, or TL;DR plus action items. You do not write a prompt. For a YouTube lecture, the Chrome extension summarizes on the watch page with chapters and flashcards.
What are the guest limits?
About 12 summaries per hour from one network, up to 24,000 characters each, and files up to 10 MB or 80 PDF pages. Longer documents are trimmed from the opening and the ending.
Can this summarize a YouTube lecture?
This page summarizes text and documents. For a lecture video, install the Chrome extension and tap Summarize on the watch page. Start with taking notes from YouTube lectures.
Which languages work?
English is the default. You can also request Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Polish, and several other languages. The source can differ from the summary language.
Is SummarizAI affiliated with Google or YouTube?
No. SummarizAI is an independent Chrome product by Francesco Masciopinto. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Google or YouTube.
